LEED Certification

Using SIGMA's site furnishing products, projects can become greener and gain more credits for LEED Certification. LEED Points with SIGMA products can be attained in several ways.

SUSTAINABLE SITES

Credit 4.1: Alternative Transportation, Public Transportation Access
Requirement: Locate project within 1/2 mile of an existing, or planned and funded, commuter rail, light rail or subway station. OR Locate project within 1/4 mile of one or more stops for two or more public or campus bus lines usable by building occupants

Solution: SIGMA can help with this credit through our line of bus shelter products. We can help you create an attractive and practical solution to providing public transportation access.

Credit 4.2: Alternative Transportation, Bicycle Storage & Changing Rooms
Requirement: For commercial or institutional buildings, provide secure bicycle racks and/or storage (within 200 yards of a building entrance) for 5% or more of all building users (measured at peak periods), AND, provide shower and changing facilities in the building, or within 200 yards of a building entrance, for 0.5% of Full-Time Equivalent (FTE) occupants. OR For residential buildings, provide covered storage facilities for securing bicycles for 15% or more of building occupants in lieu of changing/shower facilities

Solution: SIGMA offers a range of bicycle storage solutions and can also work with you to develop custom solutions to bicycle storage needs.

Credit 5.2: Site Development, Maximize Open Space
Requirement: Provide a high ratio of open space to development footprint to promote biodiversity. For projects located in urban areas that earn SS Credit 2, pedestrian oriented hardscape areas can contribute to credit compliance.

Solution: When building greenspaces on your site. SIGMA's site furnishings can be used to help provide a pedestrian friendly area that people will want to use as a place for reflection, relaxation and rejuvenation.

MATERIALS AND RESOURCES

Credit 7: Certified Wood
Requirement: Use a minimum of 50% of wood-based materials and products, which are certified in accordance with the Forest Stewardship Councils (FSC) Principles and Criteria, for wood building components. These components include, but are not limited to, structural framing and general dimensional framing, flooring, sub-flooring, wood doors and finishes. Only include materials permanently installed in the project.

Solution: Upon customer request, SIGMA can provide FSC Certified Wood on any of our products.

INDOOR EVIRONMENTAL QUALITY

Prerequisite 2: Environmental Tobacco Smoke (ETS) Control
Requirement: OPTION 1: Prohibit smoking in the building; Locate any exterior designated smoking areas at least 25 feet away from entries, outdoor air intakes and operable windows. OR OPTION 2: Prohibit smoking in the building except in designated smoking areas; Locate any exterior designated smoking areas at least 25 feet away from entries, outdoor air intakes and operable windows; Locate designated smoking rooms to effectively contain, capture and remove ETS from the building

Solution: Use SIGMA site furnishings and shelter structures to provide outdoor smoking areas in accordance with this requirement. We also provide a full range of high quality litter bins with cigarette disposal options as well as ash urns for pedestrian convenience.
